Tirumala/Tirupati - Darshan Tips | | | |
Travel Tips Avoid weekends, major festivals (Dusshera -unless you are well prepared) and summers with kids. The avg temp in summer is 40+ C. In a day normally 25000-50000 people take darshan.
Darshans
Sudarshan 50 Rs/person Utilize the local TTD counters to book early (3 days) to get queued darshan. This darshan is simply just managed queue system where you arrive 1 hr before your given time on the token to the vaikuntham and sit through the halls etc/combine with free darshan queue. This darshan token is available when you directly arrive at Tirupathi in front of railway station etc. Usually you get darshan timings within 12-24 hrs depending on rush.
Archanantara Darshan - 200 Rs/person This is the best bet whose ticket is only available @ Tirupati itself, these are limited in number (4000 tickets per day), this darshan happens after the morning archana after 4 am and you can be assured to be out before 6 am. You just need to be in the line for less than 1/2 hr.
Sevas You can go to http://www.tirupati.org/sevas_main.htm to get information. Some of the sevas require 6+ month early bookings, some are possible only after years. By giving certain kind of donation you get the privilege of getting the seva/darshan for x people for y years.
Accomodation Official paid cottage accomodation is superb if you can get it. Normally I have found people book this 3-4 months in advance so planning pays. You can stay @ Town itself in Bhima's residency or Sindhuri. Be prepared for lower than desired service and presence of polluting elements which might not coincide with your idea of religious piligrimage at Bliss hotel. (No hot water late in night, badly prepared food etc are common things).
Nearby places to see Kalahasti(Shaivite temple), Padmavati, Srinivasa, Varahaswamy.
